Hosting syrian refugees in Jordan : refugee-led humanitarianism and national response
Résumé
By adopting a long-time approach of Syrian migration, this chapter focuses on forms of migrant-led humanitarianism in Jordan, placing them more broadly in the context of the Jordanian response and the transformation of the humanitarian field engendered by the Syrian conflict on a regional scale. It sheds light on new forms of reception and hospitality that are organized on the periphery of and/ or in contention with state policies (Agier 2018; Vandevoordt 2019), while showing that refugees are not only recipients of assistance but also demonstrate a capacity for action and organization, even becoming providers of aid to other migrants and refugees (Fiddian-Qasmiyeh 2015, 2016; Sharif 2018; Pincock et al. 2020).
